Nicole Russell is a 2013 graduate of the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) Program through Workforce Solutions.  Although she had previously worked in the medical field, she took some time off to focus on raising her children. When she was ready to return to the workforce, the CMA program was a quick way for Nicole to learn new skills, gain a national certification and participate in an externship that led to employment at a local medical practice.  “[CMA Program] allowed me to sharpen my skills to be better in my current position,” says Russell.

Russell credits Sharon Cason, the CMA instructor, for her hands-on instruction and clinical assignments that helped prepare her for a job as a CMA.  “Sharon Cason was a great instructor.  She had our class very hands-on in the instruction and clinical assignments.”

This experience has provided Nicole with the opportunity to work in a growing healthcare field while allowing her to further her education at Laurel Ridge towards becoming a Registered Nurse. The recently employed mother of two young boys adds, “I am currently prepping to apply for the RN program in January and have continued to take courses at the Middletown Campus of LFCC.” The Clinical Medical Assistant Program was a great way for Nicole to jump-start her career while taking care of her family.
