Commercial Driver’s License CDL-A Student Spotlight

With little to no experience in tractor-trailers and truck driving, Scott Renner of Cross Junction, VA came to Laurel Ridge Community College Workforce Solutions to find a new career. Renner selected Laurel Ridge as his number one choice. “There were a couple of schools in the area and they didn’t offer as much as what Laurel Ridge offered,” said Renner. “I really liked what they had to offer. It’s a really good program and they take time to help you out if you need a little extra help in certain places. It was a really good choice for me.”CDS_Tractor_Trailer_Student_Scott_Renner-Truck

Laurel Ridge is committed to providing professional training with ample opportunity to learn hands-on at the Laurel Ridge driving range in Front Royal. A recipient of Workforce Financial Assistance, Renner adds, “…the program has been outstanding and it’s a really good program. It breaks everything down in depth. Definitely learned a lot with little to no experience in tractor trailers and truck driving. The instructors have quite a few years of experience and they’re definitely they best. They’ve definitely taught me quite a bit.”

After graduating Renner plans to work local and close to family with his new career. “I’ll probably get into regional trucking in the area…try to stay in the mid-Atlantic region, because I have family in the area and want to be home as soon as possible to be with them.” said Renner. CDL-A program also assists students with job placement during and even after the program completion.

Renner also recommends if you are considering the program to get your commercial learner’s permit and VDOT health exam completed prior to training. If not, Laurel Ridge has everything setup perfectly to get you started. Renner further adds, “It’s been a great experience. They have taught me quite a bit and anybody who wants to get into the profession should definitely consider Laurel Ridge Community College.”
